Is anybody longing for the return of the Lord? Is anyone dreading
the Lords' appearing? It doesn't seem like very many people really
expect Him very soon. The Blind Boys of Alabama sing,
"Everybody's worried about that atom bomb, No one seems worried
about the day my Lord shall come!" And their words ring true.
Everyone's worried, but not about the return of Christ.
Some don't want the Lord to return at all, of course. Some do not
want the opportunity for others to be lost. But, will not the Lord
save all who will be saved before He comes? That is the reason He
has delayed even this long - because He is not willing for any to
perish.
Many others do not want the Lord to return because they are not
finished here yet. They have things yet to do, places yet to see,
and desires yet to fulfill. Plenty of time to be with Jesus later, but
we only get one brief chance at this so we must go for it! It is easier
to understand how some might be said to be taking the kingdom by
force when we see how people strive to take even some small part
of the kingdom of this world for themselves.
But most simply do not consider that He might actually appear.
"Where is He then after all this time?", they might ask. When He
does appear though, and He will, they will recognize Him and they
will be sad to the point of grief. I don't think they will regret so
much what they haven't yet seen of this world but that they
squandered their lives even in striving for what they did see.
