The weather has been so nice here in Oklahoma this fall. What a blessing from God! Of
course, its just as much a blessing when it rains. And, when we are spared from climatic
catastrophes. But, what about when we are not spared? What about when its my house that
is blown to some other county? Well, if you are contemplating the fact that your house is in
parts unknown you were surely blessed by at least your head remaining where it was before.
Sometimes, though, we may have been spared in such an occurrence and loved ones were
not. How is it a blessing from God when my child is dead or my spouse paralyzed?
This is one of the most difficult questions that can be raised. I can give you the usual verses
about all things helping good to appear in the future and how God is with you through it all.
But in these midnight hours we don't need the verses themselves - we need the author of the
verses. The verses are good for us to hear if they lead us to that author. In other words, we
don't need to know that God goes through it all with us, we need to experience God's going.
God's presence.
We know too much about God and we know God too little. We must meet God in worship;
we must meet God in prayer; we must meet God together; and we must meet God alone. If
this has been our regular practice then we will not have to look for God when the blessing is
hard to see in the day of calamity and in seeing Him the blessing will become obvious.
