Be holy. The one who hungers and thirsts for righteousness is the one who will be filled. So, by
extension the one who hungers and thirsts for other things will not be the one who is filled. The
dream of being filled by something else though, anything else, is so powerful that almost every
person ever born has sought an alternate route to satisfaction. They have all failed, but most
continue to try. Some have given up and others so impaired themselves that the pursuit can not
be maintained, but most just keep trying. And failing.
What is it about righteousness that is so dreadful that people almost universally avoid it like the
plague? Maybe it is that righteousness can never be achieved by a man on his own. Of course,
experience will show that nothing a man can accomplish on his own will slake the thirst he has in
his heart. But he wants it to be his own so much that he gives his life and even his immortal soul
to the pursuit. Some might consider that pursuit to be noble even if fruitless. It appears rather in
reality to be foolishness whether disguised as nobility or not.
Allowing your hunger for the fulfillment of any appetite other than that of your heart's craving for
God to drive your life will leave you empty and spent. Any appearance to the contrary is illusion.
Pursue whatever desire for God you have and your appetite will increase - as long as you begin
your pursuit at the cross of Christ - and though appearing to be contrary to common sense the
greater the hunger becomes the fuller the heart grows!
