Creation vs evolution has become one of the battles of our age. Choosing
sides in this issue has become a sort of test of faith for some people and a
test of reason for others. I don't see what the big fuss is about. I
personally have no problem believing God was able to create by His own
power all things from nothing and I do have a problem believing nothing
was able to create all things through random processes. Since I believe
one of the reasons for the vast and varied creation is to display the glory of
God I cannot find a place for the random.
To my relief, I do not have to convince anyone of the truth of what I believe
about creation. I only have to give my reasons for the hope I have in
Jesus and while I will try to convince those who will listen that they can
have that same hope it is up to them to believe what they choose to
believe. They will have to weigh the light they have from all sources and
decide what they believe about creation and Jesus and, of course,
themselves.
I believe God created because I have faith in the God of the Bible and
because of my personal experience with that same God. Many believe in
the latest conclusions of science - almost no one believes in the earlier
conclusions of science. Those conclusions have always changed and I
believe they will change again. Genesis has not changed, God has not
changed, and my hope in Christ has not changed.
I am not opposed to evolution being taught in school. I am not opposed to
creationism or intelligent design being taught either. They can teach the
Navajo ideas on origins if they want. I do not understand why neither side
wants to put their ideas alongside others for comparison if they believe
their own ideas are true. The one who seeks truth will find truth - the one
who seeks something else will find something else.
