The catastrophes of the recent past have been sobering in many ways.
Surely we have seen first hand the futility of putting our hope in anything
that can be built in this world.  I'm not opposed to building and enjoying what
is built, but I don't - can't after what we've seen - put any faith in what may
be standing to enjoy a year from now.  Or a week from now.   Who will be
here 150 years from now to enjoy that which does stand?  It seems unlikely
that it will be any of us.
Yet I am very optimistic about the future.  In fact, I am extremely optimistic
about the future.  God has promised that all those who trust in Christ have a
future - a glorious future.  An eternal future.  The best future possible for
man is offered to all men everywhere who will repent of trusting themselves
and what they've built with their own hands and turn to the one who knows
how to build that which can stand and will stand.  Other things and other
ways may look lasting and safe but that is illusion.  Trust Jesus with your
future or have no future.
