I. Powerful prayer is for every believer. The answer to every single question is prayer. John 15:7.
A. God's purposes for prayer
1. Get to know God
2. Worship God
3. Transformation through Jesus Christ
B. What do you have to gain?
1. Relationship with God becomes real and personal
2. Ever-deepening holiness and discipleship
3. More clearly hear God's voice
4. Spiritual power of your life and ministry will increase
5. Answered prayers will increase
6. Greater power to withstand trials, temptations, and spiritual attacks
7. You will see people saved
8. You will learn to pray effectively for revival
II. Three foundations of a powerful prayer life
A. You must view daily prayer as a relationship with God - not just a duty
B. You must absolutely commit to spend significant time alone with God in prayer. Matt 6:6
1. Because Satan will try anything to stop you
2. Because the flesh will resist developing your prayer life
3. Because the world's ways are the opposite of God's ways
C. Powerful prayer requires a balanced practice of 5 types of prayer (see below)
1. The powerful life of prayer cannot be developed in a 2-3 minute devotion
2. If you want to grow the actual practice of prayer is required
III. Five types of prayer
A. Praise and thanksgiving
B. Confession of sin
C. Petition - praying for your needs
D. Intercession - praying for others
E. Meditation - listening to God
IV. Beginning guidelines
A. Regular reading of significant amounts of scripture is essential
B. Be familiar with 3 practical guidelines of powerful prayer
1. Give God the best time of your day
2. Have a balanced prayer life - use all 5 types
3. Ask God to teach you to pray
C.; Eight Principles of Powerful Prayer
1. Pray with an attitude of authority and confidence through Jesus' name
2. Spend quality time allowing God to search you in order to be cleansed from all sin
3. Ask God to fill and anoint you with His Spirit
4. Pray with genuine faith and expectancy
5. Ask God to prevent Satan's influence in you and those for whom you pray
6. Ask God for fervency in your praying
7. Pray as specifically as possible
8. Find committed partners to pray with you, agree with you, and unite with you in prayer
